Published here in English for the first time are von Kirschbaum's lectures, which address important early feminist issues: the divinely ordained nature of relationships between the sexes and the rights of women to lay and ordained ministry in the church. An intriguing introduction by Eleanor Jackson explores von Kirschbaum and Barth's lifelong relationship.

About the Author

Charlotte von Kirschbaum (1899-1975) was born in Ingolstadt in Bavaria and was educated in Munich. She was serving as a Red Cross nurse when, in 1924, she was introduced to Karl Barth, a radical young university lecturer who was to transform the theology of the twentieth century. In 1929, after she had trained as a secretary, she began a partnership with Barth that lasted until her health gave way in 1964. She encouraged Barth to write his monumental Church Dogmatics, herself providing the footnotes, detached notes, and exegesis for the work.

Our Bookshop is in Copse Road in Clevedon and is open every day of the week except Mondays, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The Bookshop Co-operative comprises nearly 650 members from around the world and was set up to stop the only second-hand bookshop in our town from closing. The benefit of being a member/shareholder is only social: no-one benefits financially. All profits are used to improve the bookshop and its stock, and, through events, to contribute to the literacy and literary profile of our town. the books(s) to us and, provided you do this within 30 days of receiving the
