Il �tait interdit aux Shudras de traire une vache dont le lait devait �tre utilis� pour l'Agnihotra, d'assister � l'ex�cution du sacrifice, de prendre la boisson Soma, de s'initier et d'allumer le feu sacr�.Si un Vaishya ou un Shudra est invit� dans la maison d'un Brahmane, il doit recevoir de la nourriture en m�me temps que les serviteurs. Supposons qu'un Shudra soit invit� dans la maison d'un Brahmane. Dans ce cas, on lui donnera du travail pour son hospitalit� et on le punira parce que le Shudra n'est pas digne de respect en raison de son �ge, de sa richesse ou de ses connaissances, aussi consid�rables soient-elles. Il ne peut �tre qu'un serviteur. M�me s'il est jeune et qu'il conna�t les V�das, il est plus �g� qu'un brahmane. Non seulement les Shudras n'avaient pas le droit d'apprendre les V�das, mais la loi leur interdisait m�me de r�citer les V�das devant eux. La r�citation des V�das �tait interrompue par un simple regard vers les femmes shudras. La nourriture touch�e par les trois premiers Varnas est impure mais pas impropre � la consommation, alors que si le Shudra impur la touche, elle ne doit pas �tre mang�e.
