A quilt is made up of three layers. The top layer is generally made from 100% cotton fabrics. These fabrics are cut and then sewn together in a process called “piecing.” The middle layer of the quilt is called the “batting” and is cotton, polyester, a combination of both, or wool. Finally, the backing is usually one large piece of 100% cotton. Many modern quilts have a pieced backing which the quilter creates from piecing leftover sections of fabrics that were used in the top layer.

The project readers will be working on in this book is a baby size quilt, - perfect for beginners! You will be constructing the quilt from three simple 12” blocks, repeating each block until we have a total of nine. Then, you will border the quilt, and there you have it.
