Maggi McCormick Gordon, whose Ultimate Quilting Book received kudos, gives quilters a reason to rejoice with more than 200 easy, dazzling patterns. Each design appears in full color, with stitch diagrams. Among the wealth of quilt patterns featured are the Log Cabin, Nine-Patch, Irish Chain, Friendship Star, Pinwheel, Clamshell, Fan, Cathedral Window, and many more.
On the one hand, this is the easiest of quilt-pattern books to follow--starting with the rudiments of the craft and then laying out 200 different designs with overall construction details and illustrations. On the other hand, this is definitely intended for sewers who understand the meticulous nature and endless patience necessary to finish a project. The author of The Ultimate Quilting Book (2000) has parlayed her expertise into yet another tome, executed with clear instructions and illustrations. Each of the four pattern sections--strip-piecing, squares and triangles, mosaics, and curves--is prefaced by a quilt gallery, a broad-brush explanation of the design's history, followed by similar groupings, such as nine patches, bow ties, tumbling blocks, and drunkard's paths. At the end are ready-to-copy quilting patterns. A very worthy purchase. Make way for Maggi! Barbara Jacobs
