Add to basketLaurie Doherty (1875-1919) won the Wimbledon singles title five times in a row and the doubles seven times, with his brother, Reggie. In 1903 he won the US Open, thus became the first tennis player to win a Grand Slam tournament outside of his native country. Reggie Doherty (1872-1910) won the Wimbledon singles title four times at the end of the 19th century and the doubles on eight occasions. This book contains some very rare images of early American players, including the team that played against England in 1900 (Ward, Whitman and Davis) and Larned. First UK Edition. Large 8vo. xii + 146pp + 2pp of adverts at the rear. Frontispiece (tissue-guard), 26 plates, 2 diags. Original decorative light blue cloth, spine sl darkened, head and tail of spine rubbed, generally shelfwear. Spotting to prelims. and scattered elsewhere, never serious. Bookplate. A good copy.
