Book Club reprint (per dot upon rear board). xvi, 1066 pages. Hardcover: H 21.5cm x L 14.25cm. Lacks dust jacket. Green cloth rubbed, staining along edges of front board, spine ends bumped but with gilt stamping still bright, slight bumping to board corners with light scuffing at tips. Some toning and soiling along edges; very faint "Discarded" stamp upon top edge but with no other such marks in book. Foxing to endpapers but interior pages are fairly clean. RAINTREE COUNTY was the sole novel authored by Ross F. Lockridge, Jr. (April 25, 1914 - March 6, 1948) who, suffering from severe depression and exhaustion, tragically committed suicide shortly after the book's publication. The cinematic adaptation of RAINTREE COUNTRY starred Montgomery Clift in the role of John Wickliff Shawnessy and Elizabeth Taylor as Susanna Drake. At the time of its 1957 release, the movie was the most expensive ever made. A good+ copy. {LitShelf#4}.
