The Friends to the Liberty of the Press was formed in 1792 to combat a zealous "right wing group" called the Association for Preservation of Liberty and Property Against Republicans and Levellers. "The aim of the Association was to bring seditious activities to the attention of authorities and to see to it that such activities were prosecuted" [McCoy F360].
