THE RESTORED GOSPEL AND THE BOOK

"Let there be light," God declared at the beginning of the Old Testament. With the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the revelations given to the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Lord reiterated that declaration. In The Restored Gospel and the Book of Genesis, author Kent P. Jackson observes that modern revelation helps us better understand ancient scripture as we interpret it in the light of the restored gospel. He provides essential background into the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible and discusses other contributions to our understanding of Genesis, including the Prophet's sermons and writings, the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine and Covenants.

"We do not have all the answers to the questions that naturally arise from our reading of scripture, and this is probably more true with regard to Genesis than any other book," he writes. "But it is also true that modern revelation provides the keys for our understanding and teaches us clearly those things that matter most. My desire has been to show what the questions are and what the sources are for dealing with those questions."

In this important companion to the study of Genesis, Brother Jackson shows how modern revelation coming through the Restoration adds to our knowledge of Jehovah and his role as Creator and Savior, Adam and Eve and their fall in the Garden of Eden, the generations of Enoch and Melchizedek, the covenant of Abraham, and the mission of Joseph, who was sold into Egypt.

"This generation shall have my word through you," the Lord told Joseph Smith. The latter-day revelations that compose the Lord's word provide an additional witness for the truth of the Bible and restore many of the plain and precious things taken away from the book of Genesis.
