Contemporary full calf leather binding; strong rubbing/scuffing to boards with corners worn; slender splitting lengthwise along front joint leaving board somewhat pliable but holding; lesser splitting to rear joint with board still fairly firm; shallow loss at worn spine heel; glue repair to tearing of spine head's surface leather; some small losses to spine's original maroon title label and black date label with flaking/dulling to their gilt stamping but with lettering still easily legible. Edges toned. Margin toning to several initial and rear leaves; mostly light foxing and some scattered soiling to interior leaves with a few corners creased from fold-ins; rear endpapers and rear flyleaf have slender insect damage at their lower fore-edge margins. Text block binding remains firm. A good antiquarian copy. This 1871 statute compilation was only Mississippi's tenth code overall and, as it should be noted, Mississippi was still under a Reconstruction government having only been readmitted to the Union on February 23, 1870.
