74 pp, 8 3/8" H. "The tragic dispute between the British and Rhodesian authorities arising out of Rhodesia's assumption of independence on November 11th, 1965, has provoked great interest in Rhodesia, in Britain, throughout the Commonwe alth, in the United States, as well as in Europe and Africa. - Mr Ian Smith, when he came to London just before independence, in an effort to arrive at an amicable settlement, appeared on television and the public formed the impression that here was a man wholly sincere, who might be mistaken, but who was forthright and honest. The British public, who had been suffering from some exceptionally acrobatic politicians, noted the difference, and Smith won many friends. - The men of the regime in Salisbury were openly called 'rebels' by Mr Wilson in Britain. This was the first time, since the United States declared her own indpendence of Britain, that a colony had taken independence from Britain instead of being granted its freedom. It was an historic occasion and act and I knew that I was embarked on a journey to see a new nation in revolt at the moment of destiny. - So this book has one simple objective: to tell in simple terms the story of my visit, what I saw, the judgments I formed. The opinions expressed are, of course, entirely my own. If the reader of this book feels that he knows far more about 'the rebels' and their way of life, their roots, their faith and their ambitions after finishing this book, this will be its justification. The time I spent on this journey was perhaps the most exciting and revealing fortnight of my life. I will try to give you an account that enables you to share this adventure with me." Interior - previous owner's name, place and signature on title page; otherwise clean and tight with no other ownership marks. Exterior - light wear at top/bottom of spine, light rubbing, very light edge wear/wrinkling, very small corner creases, slight browning - mainly on spine, soft crease on rear cover, a few tiny soiling specks - mainly on rear cover.
