Second edition, revised and enlarged. See Sabin 82585. *George Albert Smith (1817-1875) was an early leader in the Latter-Day Saint movement, and a first cousin of its founder, Joseph Smith. He served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and as a member of the church's First Presidency. After Joseph Smith's death, George A. Smith became First Counsellor to President Brigham Young, retaining this position until his death. Smith travelled to the Salt Lake Valley with the first company of Mormon settlers in 1847 and was a prominent leader in the settlement of several communities in southern Utah. He was the eighth official Church Historian and General Church Recorder from 1854 to 1871. Seller Inventory # 176168
