The present text, an expanded edition of the successful
Motor Vehicle Dynamics: Modeling and Simulation (by Giancarlo Genta), started as a revised and expanded version of a collections of notes of the lectures of Motor Vehicle Mechanics to the students of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at the Politecnico (Technical University) of Torino, Italy. The resulting textbook originated from the aim to collect the foundations of the discipline and the more recent developments in a single text; which, being published mainly in journals and proceedings, are not readily available to students and technicians working in industry.
Road Vehicle Dynamics supplies the reader with both the theoretical background of the subject and the know-how needed to perform numerical simulations. It is structured in three parts: it begins with a historical overview of road vehicles; then deals with the forces exchanged between the vehicle and the road, and the vehicle and the air; and finally, deals with the dynamic behavior of the vehicle in normal driving conditions with some extensions towards conditions encountered in high-speed racing. Coverage of contemporary automatic controls is included in this edition.
Readership: Students & Professionals dealing with Mechanical engineers.
Giancarlo Genta (born in 1948 in Torino, Italy) is Professor of Machine Design and Construction at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He specializes in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering, and his areas of professional interest include: vibration, vehicle design, magnetic bearings, rotordynamics and dynamics of mobile robots. He has written or co-authored more than 85 articles in professional publications, 230 papers presented at conferences, and 20 books, including 2 novels.
Alessandro Genta (born in 1976 in Turin, Italy) graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He has worked at the CRF and ISDG Research Centers, Italy, and ALTAIR engineering since 2006, specializing in structural analysis, vehicle dynamics simulation, and consulting for companies such as Ferrari, Brembo, Fiat, and Lamborghini, etc. He is a co-founder of AnKers, a company dealing with numerical modelling, simulation and control systems, mainly in the automotive field and motorsport.
