ROUTE ROYALE

Constance gets out of jail and David is not waiting for her. She knows he is not coming. She was the one who rejected him, who told him to stay away. Constance is twenty-one. David was her first love. They loved each other, fought, tore each other apart.
Constance is alone. In spite the loving, caring presence that her father cast on her childhood, she has cut all ties with her family. Eve, a friend, offers her a roof and some advice that Constance does not follow.
On Christmas night, she meets Werner. She does not know that this man was at her trial. That he knows everything about the accident that got her into jail. Werner lives off his private income and wastes his forties in pubs, at auctions and in court - he has a passion for legal proceedings.
How to forget David and start again with a life that was wrecked on the Route Royale? This is one amongst many unanswered questions that haunt this raw and thought-provoking debut novel. Constance probably set off into the world too early. Yet, for all her sadness and doubts, she is a person worth knowing.
