Engraved volume-title with view of the Horseguards. Six consecutive monthly issues, each with letterpress title incorporating table of contents, five with frontispiece portrait; July issue with folding map of Germany, folding plate 'Lines of Entrenchment', and folding table of rates of pay in the British Army. Two supplements, each with letterpress title, the second with frontispiece portrait. Supplement (1) History of the Campaigns of Count Alexander Suworow-Rymnikski, Field-Marshal-General in the Service of His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor of All the Russias: with a Preliminary Sketch of his Private Life and Character. Translated from the German. Supplement (2) The Campaign of General Moreau, in Germany, in 1796; with his Memorable Retreat through the Black Forest. pp522; plus ppIV,X,11-112 & IV,5-78 (supplements), two blank preliminary leaves and two blank final leaves; volume index & list of portraits on single leaf (pages 521/522) following supplements. Integral narrow ribbon place marker. Marbled edges. Near-contemporary full green leather decorated in gilt. Spine with five raised bands, and gilt title and volume number on separate maroon leather labels. Marbled endpapers. Green background of spine a little faded. Head and foot of spine and outer corners of boards slightly rubbed. Rear board with minor graze. Top edge of text-block a little darkened. Blank preliminary & final leaves lightly toned. Engraved title a little dust-marked & toned. Title-page of May issue a little toned & dust-marked around some quite deep tan offsetting from portrait opposite; the portrait lightly soiled in upper- & fore-edge margins of image side and at corresponding positions overleaf. Some light offsetting from other portraits. One leaf of May issue - pages 33/34 - with closed tear of length 50mm from fore-edge affecting three lines of text on each page, but with no loss; pages 54 & 55 of this issue with minor soiling, negligible effect on legibility. Text throughout otherwise just occasionally lightly toned. Map (in 8 segments - 4 upper segments and 4 smaller lower segments) a little toned, and not too adversely affected by a number of fairly minor other flaws:- light offsetting between those printed panels facing each other (when map folded) / minor misfolds / fold between innermost upper two segments dust-marked & toned where protruding very slightly from fore-edge of text block, and holed along 8mm to a width of up to 1mm - close to which on both sides a short & very narrow broken worm trail, and close to and above which on both sides two worm holes (the larger of length 3mm and width up to 1mm) / worm trail & holes at sides of fold between outermost upper two segments almost identical to those at sides of fold between innermost upper two segments / clean split of length 65mm along another fold / light wear at one intersection of folds. Binding holding firmly, of handsome appearance, and in near fine condition. Contents generally clean and tight, with all plates called for. VERY GOOD+ condition. Seller Inventory # 26936
