About the Author
Rafael A. Osuba (n. 1967) es un artista visual, productor cultural y cuentacuentos. Le apasiona compartir recuerdos e historias de su querido Puerto Rico. Creció en el Barrio La Mineral en Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, y a menudo encuentra inspiración para sus relatos en esas entrañables experiencias de la niñez en Borikén.Osuba cree que es esencial enseñar a los niños el valor de preservar la cultura y de destacar la belleza y positividad diaria que nos rodea. Aboga firmemente por que los niños se vean representados en los libros que leen, sin importar su origen cultural, étnico o socioeconómico. Para él, los libros infantiles bilingües y biculturales son cruciales; ayudan a los niños a comprender su propia cultura y sus orígenes ancestrales, vivan en su país natal o en el extranjero.Osuba tiene tres hijos adultos: Raffi, Gabbi y Leilani. He's passionate about sharing memories and tales from his beloved Puerto Rico. Growing up in Barrio La Mineral in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, he often finds inspiration for his stories in those cherished childhood experiences in Borikén.Osuba believes it's essential to teach children the value of preserving culture and highlighting the daily beauty and positivity around us. He strongly advocates for children seeing themselves represented in the books they read, regardless of their cultural, ethnic, or socioeconomic background. For him, bilingual and bicultural children's books are crucial; they help children understand their own culture and ancestral origins, whether living in their native country or abroad.Osuba has three adult children: Raffi, Gabbi, and Leilani. He lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife, best friend, and muse, Michelle.
Artista gráfico y pintor, que comenzó sus primeras experiencias teatrales en el Departamento de Cultura de Caguas. Se desempeña con su talento en varias actividades como asistente voluntario en el Teatro Arcelay, donde diseña carteles, promociones y pasquines.Tomó clases con distinguidos maestros de arte tales como: Héctor Escalante, Rafael Rivera Rosa y Artemio Rivera Casillas, el cual fue su mentor y amigo. Impartió talleres de pintura y encuadernación para jóvenes, adultos y nivel elemental en el Museo de Artes de Puerto Rico.Fue cofundador del teatro Diplo en Río Piedras, donde colaboró en la producción de diversas obras como: Pimpón es un muñeco con el actor Jorge Berríos y Elizabeth Díaz Cintrón. El guion para su primera obra teatral, 40 y 20 fue dirigida por el mimo, actor y comediante puertorriqueño Luis Oliva.Agradece la ayuda de sus padres Jorge Luis Rodríguez Berríos y a su madre Carmen Ríos Reyes durante su carrera artística. Actualmente imparte como maestro de Artes en The School of San Juan.About the Illustrator: A graphic artist and painter, who began his first theatrical experiences at the Department of Culture in Caguas. He applies his talent in various activities as a volunteer assistant at the Arcelay Theater, where he designs posters, promotions, and flyers.He took classes with distinguished art teachers such as: Héctor Escalante, Rafael Rivera Rosa, and Artemio Rivera Casillas, who was his mentor and friend. He taught painting and bookbinding workshops for youth, adults, and elementary school students at the Puerto Rico Museum of Arts.He co-founded the Diplo Theater in Río Piedras, where he collaborated on the production of various plays such as: Pimpón es un muñeco with actor Jorge Berríos and Elizabeth Díaz Cintrón. His first play, 40 y 20, was directed by Puerto Rican mime artist, actor, and comedian Luis Oliva.He thanks his parents Jorge Luis Rodríguez Berríos and his mother Carmen Ríos Reyes for their help during his artistic career.He currently teaches Art at The School of San Juan.
