Drawn from the folklore of the Gullah people, this new version of the critically acclaimed folktale anthology, which includes two additional stories, captures the authentic flavor and rhythms of the original stories from the oral tradition.

Reviews
Gr. 2^-5, younger for reading aloud. Redesigned with a vertical format (it now opens at the bottom instead of on the right), this edition of a 1981 title features two additional folktales told in the Gullah dialect of South Carolina and Georgia. "Cooter's Wing" explains why the tortoise's shell is cracked and marked, and "Manners for Two" retells the old fable about the fox and the stork who invite each other to dine. Reproduced in darker tones, Young's lively black-and-white drawings are even more effective than in the original volume. A handsome new edition of a notable book of folklore. Carolyn Phelan
