For over a century, the idea of reparations for the descendants of enslaved Black Americans has divided the United States. Marcus Anthony Hunter was the inaugural chair of the Department of African American Studies, holds the Scott Waugh Endowed Chair in the Division of Social Sciences at UCLA, and two-term president of the Association of Black Sociologists.
