Radon: The Invisible Threat/What It Is Where It Is How to Keep Your House Safe/With Radon Test Kit

Provides homeowners with advice on dealing with this environmental hazard, offers simple and inexpensive ways to test for radon in the home, and gives practical solutions for making the home safe

Radon is a radioactive gas produced in the ground through the natural decay of radium, found in high concentrations in natural environmental materials. The gas that reaches the surface is normally dissipated harmlessly into the atmosphere. But if it is trapped inside a house, especially an energy-efficient house, radon gas can cause serious health problems. Millions of houses may be affected. This up-to-date book is intended as a guide for concerned homeowners. It thoroughly covers both testing procedures and practical solutions. It gives very useful information on state and federal programs and Ra-testing services, with addresses and contacts. The book is well organized and generally readable, although at times too alarmist. Recommended as the only book on the topic for this audience level. Diane M. Brown, Univ. of California Lib., Berkeley
