Against this background, this book is intended to provide a concise and useful synopsis of current railway technology and scientific analysis, taking into account international specifications.
From an introductory review of the transport and market context, the book proceeds to deal with the mechanical behaviour materials defects, analysis and design of track and its components. High speeds and other aspects of train dynamics are considered in detail, together with the consequent requirements imposed on track and layout design. Finally, the author looks at different forms of traction, braking and tilting technologies.
