The aim in writing this MANUAL is two-fold. One is to benefit those who may wish to receive exposure to actual professional practice from the 'scene of action' standpoint as distinct from a 'theoretical' classroom hyperbole that belongs to an almost imaginary world far from the sleeves-up workman like life-size actuality! Second is to try and 'talk' to the engineer in short straight steps, explaining the subtleties enroute, in the vein of a story narrated informally, without 'mystifying' him with exotica. About the Author: Dr. Raina is presently the technical advisor to Gov't of Bahrain for the Bahrain - Qatar Causeway Bridge. Earlier he was Operational Advisor and independent Consultant to various Consulting organizations in the fields of Bridges, Contract Management and Contracts, and prior to that he was Senior Expert and Consultant to the United Nations and the World Bank in many countries for many years. He headed the United Nations Team of Experts in Saudi Arabia for the multi-billion dollar extensive roads network development and maintenance program in the country.
