Fuller has remarked, "The Monks that wrote this King Edward's Life had too heavy a hand in over-spicing it with miracles." Alittle of this is seen in the above recorded vision. But there is evidently a want of accuracy as to dates on the part of the Ramsey Chronicler in putting the retirement of Alfwin and the succession of Aiisitjs in the time of Edward,--(R.H. cxix.) for ordinary History gives 1066 as the year of that King's death, and the Monasticon gives 1080 as the date of Ailsius' succession. The latter is probably correct. It is difficult to reconcile the two, but possibly he was in exile before he was Abbot. The Chronicler wrote from memory or from undated MSS., andas Edward was a favourer of Monks, they liked to say all possible and even apocryphal good things of him, to whom they gave the title of Saint and Confessor.
