8vo, 216pp, maroon cloth with black decoration and gilt lettering. This copy inscribed to front pastedown by O.J. Bates of Columbia, S.C, dated 1884, with additional handwritten correction in the same hand to errata leaf. Memoir of a long life lived in Columbia and the surrounding area, with much local history as well as a chapter on the civil war. Very good with wear and discoloration to covers, small stains to text block edges, foxing and toning.
