This book provides an updated and consolidated collection of Quebec's general and permanent statutes. This collection includes five titles: the Preliminary Title on the interpretation of statutes, etc.; the first Title on territorial division; the second Title on the legislative power; the third Title on the executive power; and the fourth Title on public departments and matters falling within their jurisdiction. The author has maintained the division into titles, chapters, and sections adopted for the Revised Statutes of 1888, as well as the numbering of articles in a single series from beginning to end. This decision preserves a division and method of numbering to which the public is now accustomed and which presents no inconvenience. A number of provisions in force have been omitted from the revision either because the object they proposed has been accomplished or because they do not have the necessary characteristics to be inserted in a collection of permanent and general laws. Mention will be made elsewhere of what has become of these provisions. Provisions that are not permanent or general will also be reproduced in a supplement that will accompany the Revised Statutes.
