The Raven's Return: The Influence of Psychological Trauma on Individuals and Culture

An insightful look at post-traumatic stress disorder by a former counselor of Vietnam veterans.

"Emmett Early brings Jung's theory of complexes to bear on post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychic trauma more generally, in an illuminating way. The product of careful observation and long reflection, drawing upon current research, his book offers valuable insights into the ways in which people suffer and deal with psychic trauma. What emerges is a differentiated account of an important and ubiquitous set of phenomena. Especially striking is the author's treatment of cultural artifacts (including fairy tales and the Lone Ranger radio serial) that express psychic trauma imaginatively and make it the subject of psychological work. The book also affords suggestive glimpses of psychotherapy with trauma survivors." -John Beebe editor of the San Francisco Jung Institute Library Journal.
