A music text book designed to transition the music theory or ear training student from alphabet notation (a, b, c, etc.) to the more internationally used solfege notation (do, re, mi, etc.). Initially written for use at The Juilliard School, this text is designed to allow the student to instantly recognize solfege notation in both fixed-do and moveable-do solfege. Exercises are presented in treble, bass, grand staff, and all the "do" clefs. Sections on the history of solfege and tonic solfa are included.

Very active with the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards), Dr. Knowles served 8 years on the Board of Governors, 6 years as a National Trustee, and 3 terms as Los Angeles President of the Academy.
