Ready for Read Aloud

Second-grader Rosa wants to read her favorite book during read-aloud at school, but she feels too shy. Her teacher encourages her to practice reading out loud to build up courage. Throughout the week, Rosa practices reading aloud to various animals in her backyard. She feels braver every day.

When Leo moves in next door, Rosa has to decide if she’s finally ready to read aloud to another person and discovers that it’s easier to be brave with a little imagination and encouragement from friends.

This children’s book supports SEL and literacy development in the classroom and at home. Ready for Read Aloud teaches and reinforces assertiveness skills such as:

- Asking for help
- Persevering with a challenging task
- Recognizing oneself as separate from the environment, circumstances, or conditions one is in

Build courage with Rosa!

This is a read aloud and activity book for teaching assertiveness to kindergarten/elementary students (ages 5-8 years old).
