You're the Real Hero: Operation Kid Deployment Day: Featuring D.J. (Paperback or Softback)

A Story That Helps Military Kids Feel Brave, Seen, and Supported

Operation Kid Deployment Day is a heartfelt book created especially for military families navigating one of the hardest moments of service life, deployment day.

Through the eyes of a young child, readers walk step-by-step through the emotions, questions, and quiet bravery that come when a parent puts on the uniform and prepares to leave. Instead of focusing on fear, the story gently shows children how to understand their feelings, find comfort, and recognize the strength already inside them.

This book does something powerful for kids:
• It names the big feelings they don’t yet have words for
• It shows them they are not alone in what they’re experiencing
• It reminds them they are part of the mission too — in their own brave way

With warm illustrations, relatable moments, and reassuring language, the story becomes a tool parents can use to talk with their children before, during, and after deployment.

What makes this book special
• Written by a retired Air Force Command Chief who understands military family life firsthand
• Designed as the first book in a 6-book Deployment Support Series (your “deployment kit”)
• Helps children build emotional confidence, resilience, and peace during separation
• Perfect for Military & Family Readiness Centers, schools, counselors, and military parents

The heart of the message

You’re the real hero too.

Because while a service member deploys to serve the nation, a child stays home and serves with courage, patience, and love.

This book gives military kids something they rarely receive on deployment day:

Understanding. Comfort. Language. Hope.
