Very good plus, later edition, the first being 1821, in full red leather binding. Gilt lettering on spine. Upper external page edges are gilt, side and lower edges are untrimmed. Some light rubbing along spine folds. Rub throughs on three of the lower fore-edge corners. Marbled endpapers. Bookplate on both front pastedowns. Vol I has two small newspaper listings taped to the FFEP. Tiny embossed "Brentano's New York" on the lower corners of verso to FFEPs. Previous owner's name nicely scripted on the third blank page of Vol. I. Vol 1 has 17 hand-colored illustrations plus the 2-page frontispiece; all but the frontispiece and two others include laid-in tissues: Vol. II has 11 plus 2-page frontispiece and an unlisted one on page 144 titled "Catching a Charlie Napping" with one missing tissue. External page edges are age-darkened and with foxing. Age-toning and some foxing to portions of the text. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition description.
