There is nothing Tracey Dils likes better than a good ghost story. When she was growing up, she loved to scare her friends and family with terrifying tales of haunted places. In fact, she scared her little sister so badly that to this day she still sleeps with the lights on!

Tracey has never actually seen a ghost, but she has seen evidence of one. She was having lunch at an old inn in her hometown. The inn was said to be haunted. While she was eating, a tray of salt and pepper shakers rose off a counter, hung in midair for a few seconds, and then fell to the floor in one big crash. Tracey thinks that a ghost was trying to get her attention so that she'd write a story about it.

When she's not writing or spending time with her husband, Richard, and her two children, Emily and Phillip, Tracey loves to talk to young people about writing. She has held ghost-story writing workshops in schools, libraries, and writing centers throughout her home state.
