A book about the hard choices we may have to make to survive in the world today. The author examines the importance of proper mindset and being aware of the world around us. He describes some of the characteristics of the bad guys and the various weapons they may use against us. He covers various types of self-defense tools, along with the importance of getting the proper training and offers some suggestions on where to get such training. Also included are sections on firearms that the author has used throughout his career in law enforcement, as well as the pros and cons of "customizing" a self-defense handgun.

Upon receiving his BS degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology and completing service as a Special Agent in U.S. Army Intelligence, Walt Rauch was a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service and an investigator with the Philadelphia (PA) Fugitive Squad (where he made over 2,000 felony arrests). He now operates a consulting firm, Rauch & Company, Ltd., and provides firearms training as well as expert witness testimony on firearms use and tactics.

Rauch is also a writer and lecturer in the firearms field. He is published regularly in national and international publications, including Combat Handguns, Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement and other Harris Publications specialty magazines, Emap/Petersen's Handguns, Guns & Ammo specialty magazines, S.W.A.T. Magazine, Police and Security News, Cibles (France) and Visier (Germany).
