Recapitulation Of A Statement Submitted By Lieutenant Colonel Desbarres. For Consideration. Respecting His Services, From The Year 1755, To The Present Time In The Capacity Of An Officer And Engineer During The War Of 1756" by Joseph Frederick Wallet Des Barres is a historical dossier that gathers DesBarres's own account of his public service and the financial claims surrounding it. The text traces his early surveys and nautical charts along the coasts and harbours of North America, including the Atlantic Neptune, and documents his role as Lieutenant Governor of Cape Breton and his attempts to obtain reimbursement and recognition for expenditures, losses, and lost opportunities. It presents a sequence of memorials, official replies, and parliamentary and Treasury correspondence from the late 18th century, illustrating colonial administration, military governance, and the difficulties of securing state support for an infant settlement amid political opposition. The work provides insight into imperial governance, frontier engineering, and the long aftermath of war in North Atlantic colonies.
