320 x 200 mm. with large chip. A detailed invoice for copper boiling pots and saucepans, brass candlesticks, ladels, and assorted blancmange moulds addressed to James Gordon of Bury St., St. Mary Axe, for a total of £6 5s 7d. Richard Alexander (d.1794) and Thomas Shrimpton were ironsmiths and brass founders. They went into partnership as Alexander & Shrimpton. From the late 1750s, they were based on Wood Street, in Cheapside. The premises had formerly belonged to Alexander's uncle, William Alexander. Their signage, according to a surviving bill head from 1768, was an anchor and key. In 1758, Alexander & Shrimpton received a prestigious commission at Mansion House, which comprised stoves, chandeliers, and railings. After his partnership with Alexander dissolved, Shrimpton later went into business with John Russell and William Ewster. Records describe an attempted theft from Shrimpton's premises in 1780. A customer stole 1,000 nails, worth 7 shillings. After being apprehended by Shrimpton's shopkeeper, the individual was found guilty at the Old Bailey and received a whipping as punishment.
