This book presents the select proceedings of the 10th National Conference on Wind Engineering (NCWE 2024). It broadly explores five major areas of research. The ‘testing methodologies’ section focuses particularly on the recent developments in wind tunnel testing, computational wind engineering and field measurements. It also delves into wind loading on structures, encompassing bridges, facades, chimneys, cooling towers, steel towers and low-rise and high-rise structures. The book also addresses revisions to the Indian Standard (IS) Codes The book has a dedicated chapter on measurements and assessments related to wind meteorology, wind climate assessment, urban wind environment, and disaster mitigation. It especially presents the recent advances in utilising Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for predictions. This book also covers other important topics like wind-induced vibrations and control, specifically within aerodynamics and aeroelasticity. It also covers topics like wind turbines and other industrial aerodynamics, including vehicle and sports aerodynamics.
Dr. Vinayagamurthy Ganesan is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Aerodynamics Laboratory at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai. He played a pivotal role in establishing this laboratory and took the lead in developing a wind tunnel facility within it. He secured funding from the Department of Science & Technology (DST) to conduct research on the impact of wind on expansive roofs, with a specific focus on airport settings. His proactive involvement extends to consultancy projects for various industries, totalling around 40 Lakhs. Dr. Vinayagamurthy's research interests encompass bluff body aerodynamics, fluid-structure interaction, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), wind effects on cable-stayed bridges, wind turbines, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. His impactful research has led to the publication of over 50 papers in prestigious international journals and conferences. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dr. Vinayagamurthy was honoured with the Best Master’s Thesis award in wind engineering by the Indian Society of Wind Engineering in 2009. Currently, he leads a team with three ongoing PhD students and one PhD student who has successfully completed their program.
