First printing of the Second Edition, Enlarged. Printed in the U.S.A. Date on the title page. Preface, Detailed Contents, Introduction and Discussion for each chapter, Notes, Figures, Diagrams, Tables, Index; xvii, 503 pages. The original maroon cloth is in exceptionally fine condition, with just a gentle bumping of the spine ends. The gilt lettering on the spine is as bright as if just issued. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] The interior is bright, crisp and completely clean, despite some freckling on the top edge. "Twelve chapters have been extensively revised, especially with regard to the inclusion of additional experimental material and, in several cases, the substitution of more recently reported experiments for those described in the first edition. Seven entirely new chapters deal with the following topics: belief in mysticism among college students, the perception of obstacles by the blind, conflict and experimental neurosis in cats, the value of organization for retention and transfer, the perception of the vertical in space, opinion-poll technique, and projection and the Thematic Apperception Test." The books listed here are, indeed, from my father's library, representing the depth and varied interests of a modern scholar's mind. Dr. Henry LeRoy Finch, professor emeritus of philosophy and a published author, trained in the classics (graduating top in his class at Yale), and went on to develop an appreciation for modern thinkers. It took over half-a-century to amass this collection of primarily-scholarly books with a broad range of subjects from Philosophy and Religion (with an emphasis on the interrelationships and intricacies of Eastern and Western Thinking) to scientific influences played out over the entire history of humankind, touching necessarily on Art, Anthropology, Archaeology, Literature, History of various Cultures, Psychology, Physics, and Spiritual Thought, including Theosophy and Mysticism. Many are esoteric philosophical works, out-of-print and unavailable elsewhere. A great number cover the interconnections of so many subjects as to defy classification. His was a working library: each volume was read and familiar, its whereabouts on a shelf always known, even when "double-parked." Though many of the books are esoteric, others will appeal to the general reader, often making an abstruse subject more approachable. (There are a hundred books on Einstein alone!) In addition, there are numerous paperbacks--classics, scholarly, first-published editions, several versions of the same book (in different translations), handy for packing along in a back pocket. Each of the volumes from the collection has a bookplate tipped in at the front and may have pencil marginalia--sparse or profuse. I have tried to reflect this in all the listings, but feel free to call and discuss further details of a book's condition. As it will take a long time to write up all the descriptions, some of you may wish to call and ask about a particular book you have been seeking. I have no store front; for sales by email (or telephone), please send check or money-order payable in US dollars. Credit card orders are welcome through Abebooks. Please contact me if you need more information (or scans) for any of the books. I try to describe each one carefully but if you feel it has been misrepresented, any book is returnable within a reasonable amount of time. Please notify me first. My policy is to charge only the actual shipping rates: Media mail is $3.20 anywhere within the United States for the first volume (it takes 7 to 10 days, sometimes a little longer); for Priority mail (two or three days usually), cost is $5.50 for one volume.

Usually, I ship books within 24 hours of receiving an order. Shipping costs are based on books weighing about 2 pounds (1Kg). If your book order is heavy or oversized, I may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required. Please note that new flat-rate-priority shipping boxes allow up to five books to be sent within the United States at just double the rate for a single volume. For most international sales, I ship books well protected in priority mailers.
