Recent Information Respecting Port Phillip And The Promising Province Of Australia Felix In The Great Territory Of New South Wales: Including Their History, Geography, And Important Natural Resources,With Interesting Sketches Of The Aboriginal Inhabitants, And Valuable Advice To Emigrants. This 1841 pamphlet surveys the young colony of Port Phillip (Australia Felix) from the perspective of early settlers and government officials. It combines historical sketches of exploration (notably Mitchell, Hovell, and Sturt), geographic and climatic descriptions, soil and mineral analyses, and natural history of flora and fauna. It also discusses the province’s social structure, protectorate measures for Aboriginal peoples, a Wesleyan mission, and opportunities for emigrants, including land selection, stock farming, and seasonal wages. The work aims to attract labor and capital to Port Phillip, contrasting its prospects with other colonies, and ends with practical guidance for new arrivals, including a model treaty with Aboriginal leaders.
