Innkeeper/Journalist Anne Marie DeFreest lives in Waitsfield Vermont, with her husband David, and her two children Elisabeth and David. She is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in journalism and communications. She has run The Inn at the Round Barn Farm with her parents Jack and Doreen Simko since 1986 and has been a partner in Cooking From the Heart since 1998. She is a member of the Professional Association of Innkeepers International and serves on their Advisory Board. Recipes & Reflections is the second of Anne Marie's books. She published Snapshots, a historical snapshot of the town of Waitsfield, in 1989. She believes happy employees make for happy guests and that there is a spiritual connection between people and food.
Annie Reed Rhoades, founder of Cooking From the Heart, lives in Fayston, Vermont with her husband Don and son Benjamin. She is a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont. She has cooked all over New England for a variety of clients, including the Essex Conference Center in Massachusetts, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Company of Vermont, and the President of the Disney Company, Michael Eisner. She is a member of the Vermont Fresh Network and Chef's Collaborative 2000 and actively supports Share our Strength, a national organization that is dedicated to fighting hunger. She caters weddings and parties, gives cooking classes, and is currently working on her next book on Savory Cheesecakes, Spreads and Dips.
