As adults, when we criticize ourselves, the voice we employ is most likely the internalized voice of the negative parent or caregiver, which sadly leads us to believe we were bad or defective as children.

Michael Aiello, MS, has worked for twenty-five years as a school counselor in northern California. During this time, she helped many young children, teens, and adults learn to love and accept themselves with compassion and forgiveness.

Aiello was also a child therapist in a domestic violence shelter in Arizona for four years, where she created and facilitated a successful wilderness and parenting program. She then spent two years as a wilderness therapist in northern California, working with women and depression and had her own private psychotherapy practice for several years.

Aiello lives in the mountains of northern California.
