About the Author

Mario Ciampolini spent 40 years with the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Florence. There he developed a deep interest in the immune response to bacterial species within the gut microbiota. He discovered that phase III gut contractions associated with hunger help eliminate pathogenic responses. He presents here his method and findings.
