ABOUT THE BOOKAfter working hard through high school and working at The Globe Clothiers at $12 a week, Jack made the choice to attend Indiana University for law school in the fall of 1938. During his time at IU, Jack enrolled in ROTC infantry military training. ROTC earned him $90 a semester; enough to pay for his tuition and extra spending money. In 1942, Jack called his bride-to-be in Walkerton, to meet him at his post in South Carolina. Not long after Jack and Jeannette married, Jack’s father passed away and Jack went with his men to fight in Guam, Okinawa, and the Philippines. His times in the war awarded him with 2 Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star Medal, and many remarkable stories.Jack took every opportunity to let Jeanette know how much he loved her and throughout his tour in World War 2, he was a pillar of strength for his men and his wife, as Jeanette too, was for him. The couple traveled between six different bases during his training, and by the time he deployed to the Pacific he was Captain of the 77th Division of the United States Army Infantry. Famously known as the “Lost Battalion,” Jack went to great lengths to find his way back to his patient and resilient wife. ABOUT THE AUTHORJack Rearick AKA John Arden Rearick is a man who found himself rooted in grit and perseverance at an early age. Lived in Indiana during the Great Depression, his mother and father worked hard to provide for Jack and his sister. He wrote this book while recovering from bronchitis a few years prior to his passing, these memoirs follow Jack through his uncensored childhood, life-long romance, and military service. A lawyer by trade, Jack’s unique perspective of the world covers every aspect of human desires. His honesty, as he reflects on his own life, reveals secrets of the everyday 20th century man, and with his strong and loving wife, Jeannette by his side, readers can re-live history in Mid-Western America. With humor, remorse, and joy, Jack leaves the reader in awe of how the world can change in a lifetime. Jack and his wife Jeanette had two daughters who have their own families. Jack was adored by his four grandchildren. He was known and highly respected by many, known too for his love and commitment to his wife, his family, his country, and law.
