Recollections Of An Artillery Officer: Including Scenes And Adventures In Ireland, America, Flanders And France (Volume II)

Gun smoke, sea crossings, and hard-won recollection. Hear one officer's world. At close range, without varnish. In Recollections Of An Artillery Officer (Volume II), Benson Earle Hill continues an artillery officer memoir that ranges far beyond the parade ground. Five words: marches, ports, billets, batteries, battle. Told with the directness of lived experience, this military memoir volume two blends a historical travel narrative with the practical realities of service, following a British soldier through his Ireland-America-France journeys and into the charged landscape of Flanders. Hill writes as a participant, not a later interpreter. The result is primary source military history: observations on discipline, command, and the texture of soldier life overseas, alongside clear attention to artillery tactics and campaigns. Readers drawn to battlefield scenes and adventures will find movement and immediacy; readers who value context will find a period eye for places, people, and the shifting rhythms of war and travel. As part of the tradition of British army memoirs, it stands as a record of how campaigns were experienced on the ground, and why Flanders military history still matters to the study of modern Europe. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. Pair it with Volume I for a complete two-volume set, or shelve it within a classic military memoirs collection as a work of record, voice, and enduring human detail.
