German engineer, musician and inventor Harald Bode (1909-87) has had a profound and lasting impact on electronic music practice and culture. Bode's lifelong pursuit of what he called "known and unknown sounds" unfolded across more than six decades. From early European electronic music instrument design to experimental sound modification and studio equipment in the United States, his work preceded many concepts and styles which we now take for granted.
Reconstructing Harald Bode documents Bode's instruments, writings and compositions, situating them within their historical context and complementing them with perspectives of contemporary artists, musicians, researchers, and engineers. It is a must-have volume for fans of Bode as well as anyone interested in sound experimentation, instrumental innovation and the origins of modern electronic music.
