This book attempts to reconstruct the history of an African American community that lived on Yellow Hill, north of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in the mid-1800s. The author discusses the involvement of the Yellow Hill community and neighboring Quakers (Friends) in Underground Railroad activity during the years before the Civil War.

About the Author
Local historian Debra Sandoe McCauslin has made presentations to historical societies and Civil War roundtables throughout the mid-Atlantic area. Her articles have appeared in Gettysburg Experience magazine, the Gettysburg Times, and publications of the Adams County Historical Society, for whom she produced the documentary film Adams County USA. A descendant of George Washington Sandoe, first to fall at the Battle of Gettysburg, Debra provided research for a story of his life written by T. W. Burger (Civil War Times, August 2000). Reconstructing the Past is her first book.
