Recursive Field Functionalism: Consciousness and Continuity

Can a copy of your mind ever be you? Why does consciousness feel so mysterious? And what, if anything, survives the passage of time? Recursive Field Functionalism: Consciousness and Continuity offers a bold new perspective on the nature of mind, identity, and human experience. Rejecting both dualism and simplistic computational theories, Francis Erdman argues that consciousness is an ongoing process of recursive enactment grounded in the physical world rather than a hidden essence residing within it.  From perception, memory, and personal identity to artificial intelligence, digital life extension, morality, and mortality, this book examines some of the deepest questions in philosophy and cognitive science. The result is a rigorous yet accessible exploration of consciousness that challenges conventional assumptions while defending a fully naturalistic view of what it means to be human.
