When they are moved out of their cozy den by an invading bulldozer, Red Fox and his family find a new home in an unexpected place
Reviews:
PreSchool-Grade 2-- In this sequel to Red Fox (Dial, 1991), a bulldozer entering their den forces the foxes to find a new place to live. Locating a new home is not that easy however, and the family encoun: ters obstacles at every turn. Exhausted and cold, they board a boat and fall asleep. Alarmingly, they awaken to find that they are headed for the city. An empty hole beneath a tree in a park provides a happy conclusion and also makes a more serious statement about the problem of decreasing forests for animals and the difficulty of finding shelter. Although the writing is at times awkward, the batiklike illustrations are quite eye-catching. The bold colors add character to the swiftly moving, anthropomorphic creatures. Together, the interesting pictures and important message make up for the text's shortcomings. --Rachel Fox, Port Washington Public Library, NY

After a bulldozer rousts Red Fox and his family from their home, they swim a river, brave a train tunnel, and try holes occupied by several other creatures before happening on one that is available for them to settle in. As in Red Fox (1991), a slight plot is distinguished by well-designed, stylized illustrations in pleasing, bright colors. (Picture book. 3-7) -- Copyright ©1992, Kirkus Associates, LP.
