About this Item

Short gothic/horror/ghost story written in 1894 that first appeared in the Idler magazine in 1896. In this (undated) Happy Hour Library edition, designed to bring literature to the general public around the turn of the 20th century, it appears with 3 other stories by Dickens, Hawthorne, & Irving, followed by another story by Irving, "The Broken Heart,' which appears to be missing a final page. In deep green textured wrappers stamped in black lettering inside a lighter green title box to front & spine, this 16mo (4.75" x 6.50") is in VG-/Good+ condition: very clean, stapled binding secure, but staples show heavy rust, slight glue residue here where wrappers were reinforced. A few pages are mildly dogeared, else clean & modestly tanned, unmarked save for former owner's information dated 1926 to ffep. Creasing to fore edge side of front cover where it extends past text block & minor chipping at both ends of spine.
