Exciting story of Jamie a young boy in the Scottish highlands is teamed up with a misfit red coated greyhound. The partnership of boy and dog flourishes and they are introduced to greyhound competitons. Bad guys have stolen a champion to sire their own dogs. The bad guys hope to make a fortune from the winnings of their dogs but clever manipultion of choosing races far apart means that Jamie's dog and the Bad guys' dogs do not meet before the Greyhound Derby which is the most prestigious race in the greyhound calendar. Now it's time for Jamie and his dog to show their true worth.
I've just finished! It's brilliant; it kept me gripped from page 6 onwards. A great story and many good lessons to be learned. At the start in each chapter it covered the different characters which later came together with Jock and Rory and their dogs Red and Sheila. It was interesting to read about Rory's boy 'Red' and the journey he followed to get to the competition and eventually win a big race! The only bit i thought was a little confusing was the two characters in the pub and how they planned to steal a certain type of dog, I'm not sure how they fitted into the story? I found the book a good read and kept me interested which would be great for the kids. SUSAN SETHI, HORNCHURCH I read this book in one session, it's a well balanced and easy read. I'm not sure who the main character is, is it "Red" or his owner?, both of them appear after a few chapters and their life together and experiences form the basis of the storyline. I'm sure many people will identify with the life of a young boy and his pet dog but not many could know the feeling of what this friendship would achieve. For many young adults the morals of the story are a good learning experience with winning and friendship benefiting a worthy charity.
