War and Redemption is a Civil War tale of valor, grief and romance, where fateful coincidences decide the destiny of two men and their sweetheart. It tells the story of a border girl, Sally, and two young men on opposite sides - Jack Lewis of the 4th Virginia Cavalry, and Luke Kellogg of the 137th New York Volunteers. During Jeb Stuart’s 1862 raid into Pennsylvania, Jack kills a local boy protecting an old man’s gold, then buries the coins for future recovery. Later, in a chance encounter at the battle of Gettysburg, Luke critically wounds Jack after hearing him tell his partner of Sally’s locket –key to the hidden treasure. From then on, the destinies of these men, and Sally, are linked—and decided—by the stolen gold.The novel is set in locations from Skaneateles Lake, to Binghamton, to southern Pennsylvania and Gettysburg, and the Blue Ridge of Virginia. The book features a Broome/Tioga/Tompkins Civil War regiment, the 137th NY. These were ordinary men, with a remarkable leader, Col. David Ireland, that became an extraordinary regiment that helped save the Battle of Gettysburg at Culp's Hill on the night of July 2, 1863. The regiment's history is woven into the fictional story of Luke Kellogg and his Southern counterpart, Jack Lewis. Settings include Camp Susquehanna, Front Street, and Spring Forest Cemetery in Binghamton, Mercersburg, Hanover and Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, Skaneateles Lake in New York.
