Undated, but 1920s. 10 pp, in pictorial stapled wrappers, illustrated with photographs and line drawings. Small scribble mark on front cover, minor creasing to back cover; very good. The Save the Redwoods League was founded in 1918 by conservationists John C. Merriam, Madison Grant and Fairfield Osborn, who were concerned about the accelerating destruction of old-growth redwood forest lands. Although best known for its role in preserving the coastal forests of Redwood National Park, the organization also helped to protect the sequoias of Yosemite's Mariposa Grove. This rather quirky booklet advocates for protection of the big trees via a fanciful tale in which the redwoods "speak" by means of radio waves and tell of all the ancient things they have seen and known over the centuries, beginning at the time of the birth of Christ and ending with "the voice of John Muir [rising] in appeal for his beloved redwoods. "'Through all the eventful centuries since Christ's birth,' came the message, 'God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanche and a thousand storms. It is left to the American people to save them from the sawmills. Help to save the Redwoods!'" Four copies located in OCLC.
