Fourth edition. 392pp. Leather covered boards, worn to the covers and with some loss of the leather covering, spine cracked but holding. Names of previous owners to flyleaves and a note to the title page that the author was the husband of the blue stocking Elizabeth Robinson (which is not true - though the author had a lively matrimonial career), otherwise internally clean. Chapters on the Greek cities, Rome and the causes of its decline, and on revolutions, and the British constitution. The author was the son of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu and had an adventurous life. His parents appear to have considered him insane, and there is some suggestion that this book was written largely by his former tutor Foster.
