Ownership signature (on title) of George Dau-----[?], his initials on the binding cover. Heavily spotted, some stains. RARE. Maury, nicknamed "Pathfinder of the Seas", is considered the founder of modern oceanography, became Superintendent of the Depot of Charts and Instruments, later renamed the United States Naval Observatory, in 1844.
